Users with Data Manager access can activate Participate, OpenClinica’s fully-integrated ePro module. Once activated, and once forms have been identified as Participate forms, Study Participants can be notified of upcoming form deadlines and can complete those forms on their own devices. In other words, Participate allows for real-time data collection directly from the source of that data – the study participant!

To activate OC4 Participate:

  1. Access the Module Management page:

        > From the Design page: click the gear icon and select Modules.

        > From the My Studies page: click Share, select Test or Production, and then access the Modules tab.

  2. On the Modules tab, locate the Participate module and click Request Access.

    The following popup displays:

  3. Read the instructions in the popup and provide a subdomain name for your study. The subdomain name can contain letters, numbers, and a dash (-), but cannot begin or end with a dash.

The system checks to ensure that the subdomain is valid and is not already in use (subdomain names are case insensitive, so a subdomain of “Juno” is equal to a subdomain name of “juno” and would therefore be considered as already in use).

If you do not receive a message indicating your request was successful, check the subdomain name you provided and try again.

If the subdomain name passes the validation checks, the following message displays:

The status of the Participate module is set to Pending. While it is in this status, you can start designing Participate forms, though they will not be activated for Participant use until the status is set to Active.

Once your Participate request is approved, the status is reset to Active and Participate is fully available for use for that study.

  4. To deactivate Participate at any time, return to the Module Managment page, locate the Participate module, and click Deactivate. If you confirm the deactivation, this removes all Participate access to forms and reverts all Participate form settings.
